SaaS Radar Review
6/10

A US registrar and hosting provider that looks solid on paper, backed by Network Solutions, but without real differentiation from the competition. The introductory price is low and the renewal catches up with it, which only works out if you're willing to compare costs over several years. Relevant for a project targeting a US audience, hard to recommend for a site aimed at a French audience.

  • Low entry price, .com for $5 and hosting from $2.99 per month
  • Free domain and SSL certificate the first year on the Essential and Premium tiers
  • Significant gap between the first year price and renewal, up to double on some extensions

Domain.com sells domain names and shared hosting under the Network Solutions umbrella. The introductory offer is aggressive: .com for $5 the first year, several extensions under $2, and shared hosting starting at $2.99 per month on an annual commitment, with a free domain the first year on the Essential and Premium tiers.

Does the introductory price hold up at renewal?

No, and the company doesn't hide it: an entire page compares the first year price to the renewal price, often 30 to 100% higher. A .link goes from $13.99 to $18.99, a .company from $9.99 to $20.99. The math needs to be done over three years, not on the first invoice. At NameCheap, the gap between entry price and renewal is generally smaller.

Is it a good fit for a French project?

Not really. The interface, support, and billing are in English and dollars, data is hosted in the United States, and no GDPR commitment is published for clients. For a site aimed at a French audience, PlanetHoster remains more consistent. Domain.com mainly makes sense for a project targeting a US audience.

Is the included hosting any good?

It's entry level shared hosting, decent but nothing more: 10 to 20 GB of disk space, a 99% uptime guarantee, a drag and drop site builder, and 24/7 chat support. The Starter tier caps out at one site and 15,000 visitors, a limit reached quickly.
