The go-to suite for securing and speeding up a WordPress site, comprehensive and modular, worth watching for the gap between first-year pricing and renewal.

  • Full suite: security, backup, anti-spam, performance
  • Pick-and-choose model (free plan, products, bundles)
  • Gap between first-year pricing and renewal

Jetpack is Automattic's official toolkit for self-hosted WordPress. It bundles security, backup, anti-spam, performance, and stats into a single plugin, with a pick-and-choose model: a free plan, individual products, or bundles.

What is Jetpack for?

Jetpack adds features often missing from WordPress core: real-time backups (VaultPress Backup), malware scanning (Scan), anti-spam via Akismet, image speed-up (Boost), automatic social sharing (Social), search, and stats. You activate only what you need. The target audience: site publishers and WooCommerce stores that want to secure and speed up their site without stacking ten third-party plugins.

Jetpack, free or paid?

The free plan covers basic stats, social sharing, and minimal protection, enough for a small blog. The serious features (real-time backup, malware scan, unlimited backup) are paid. That's where you have to choose between standalone products and bundles based on actual usage.

How much does Jetpack cost?

Jetpack has a free plan. Individual products start around $4.95/month in the first year (Social, Boost, VaultPress Backup), before renewing higher (roughly $9.95/month). The Security bundle costs $9.95/month in year one (then $19.95), and the Complete bundle, which brings everything together, runs around $50/month billed annually.
