Midjourney is one of the most respected AI image generators available. From a simple text description, it produces visuals of an artistic quality that has shaped the field, prized by creatives, illustrators, and studios.

What is Midjourney used for?

You describe the image you want in natural language (the "prompt"), and Midjourney generates several variations within seconds. You then refine the result: variations, upscaling, region editing, character consistency, style references. The latest versions handle very fine aesthetics and, on higher plans, short video generation. The tool has historically run through Discord and now also offers a web interface. It targets illustration, concept art, moodboards, and marketing visuals.

Midjourney or Runway and ChatGPT?

Compared with Runway, a video AI specialist, Midjourney remains the reference for high quality still images. Compared with the image generator built into ChatGPT, more versatile and conversational, Midjourney favors aesthetic control and rendering quality. For a demanding visual artist, it keeps an edge on style, while an all in one assistant can suffice for general use.

What are the limits of Midjourney?

There is no free version or trial anymore, a subscription is required from the first use. Learning to write good prompts takes practice, and copyright questions around AI generated images remain a sensitive topic for commercial use.
