Wave is an accounting and invoicing software whose main selling point is the free availability of its core features. Based in Canada and owned by H&R Block, it targets freelancers and very small businesses, mainly in North American markets.

What is Wave for?

You create and send professional invoices, track income and expenses, and keep basic accounting records, all free in the Starter plan. The Pro plan adds automatic bank import, receipt scanning, and removal of Wave branding. Paid modules cover payroll and accounting support. The result is a simple tool for invoicing and tracking your books without a software budget, suited to a solo operator or a micro-business.

Who is Wave for?

Wave is built for American and Canadian freelancers: its accounting and tax rules follow those markets. For a French business, it handles neither VAT nor local accounting standards, which makes it of limited daily use. An Indy or a Tiime fits the French framework much better; Wave stays interesting mainly for an activity aimed at North America.

What are the limits of Wave?

The product is US/Canada-centric: outside those markets, the lack of local tax handling sharply limits its value. Card payment fees apply to every transaction, and advanced features (bank import, payroll) are paid or region-restricted.
