SaaS Radar Review
8/10

A benchmark in product analytics, going deep on behavior, with an excellent free plan but steep costs at high volume.

  • Detailed analysis of journeys, retention, and cohorts
  • Very generous free plan (2M events, unlimited seats)
  • Requires rigorous event instrumentation

Amplitude is a product analytics platform that helps teams understand how users behave inside an app or website. Where classic web analytics counts visits, Amplitude tracks actions and journeys to inform product decisions.

What is Amplitude used for?

You instrument your product with events (sign-up, key action, purchase), then analyze journeys, conversion funnels, retention, and cohorts. This answers concrete questions: where do users drop off, which feature drives retention, which segment converts best. The platform adds A/B testing, feature flags, and an AI-assisted analysis layer, to move from measurement to action.

Amplitude or another analytics tool?

Compared to web analytics like Google Analytics, Amplitude goes much deeper on behavior and product usage, at the cost of a more demanding setup (defining your events). It's the tool of choice for product teams driving retention and activation, not a simple marketing audience tracker.

What are Amplitude's limitations?

That power assumes rigorous instrumentation: a poorly defined event plan produces unusable data. Beyond the free plan and Plus, pricing moves to custom quotes and climbs sharply with volume, which can quickly weigh on a growing company.
