Slack is a leading name in team messaging, now part of Salesforce. It organizes conversations into channels rather than email threads, which has reshaped internal communication at many companies, especially in tech.
What is Slack used for?
You chat in topic-based channels (by project, by team), start audio and video calls (huddles), share files, and automate tasks with workflows. Slack stands out for its enormous catalog of integrations, making it a central hub where notifications from other tools land. AI features (summaries, search) have been added recently too.
Slack or Microsoft Teams?
Compared with Microsoft Teams, which benefits from Microsoft 365 integration, Slack is often seen as more nimble and pleasant to use, but billed separately.
