Apify extracts web data with thousands of ready-made scrapers, an API and an MCP server. Free plan, then from $19 per month, billed by usage.

SaaS Radar Review
8/10

The reference for self-service scraping. Its catalog of ready-to-run extractors covers most common needs, from Google Maps to LinkedIn, without writing a line of code, and its platform also serves as a foundation for developers who want to host their own bots. The free plan is enough for a serious test, the Make, n8n, and Zapier connectors plug the data into an existing workflow, and the MCP server opens it up to AI agents. The reservations come from the model: the bill depends on each Actor and is hard to predict before a trial, quality varies from one third-party Actor to another, and everything is in English. The vendor is European, but the data is hosted in the United States, with AWS.

  • Catalog of thousands of ready-to-run extractors, no code needed
  • Permanent free plan with $5 of credit per month, no credit card
  • Project cost hard to predict before a real test

Apify is a web scraping and automation platform published in Prague by Apify Technologies, founded in 2015 by Jan Čurn and Jakub Balada. It targets growth teams, data analysts, and developers who need structured, up-to-date public web data without maintaining their own bots.

What does Apify actually do?

The core of the tool is called the Apify Store: a marketplace of ready-to-run programs, the Actors. Each one extracts a specific type of data: Google Maps listings, LinkedIn profiles and job postings, classified ads, reviews, Google search results, Instagram or TikTok posts, entire pages to feed an AI model. You fill in a form, run it, and the result comes out as JSON, CSV, or Excel. Runs can be scheduled, go through residential proxies, and are triggered by API, by webhook, or from Make, n8n, and Zapier. An MCP server also lets an AI agent run Actors by itself. Developers write their own Actors in JavaScript or Python, with the open source Crawlee library.

How much does Apify cost?

The model mixes a subscription with usage. Each plan includes a monthly credit equal to its price: $5 free on the Free plan, $19 on Starter, $199 on Scale, $999 on Business, with 10% off on annual billing. The credit pays for Actors, most of them billed per result, or by compute time. Beyond it, the overage is added to the next invoice. Unused credit expires at the end of the month.

Who is it for, and what to watch out for?

Apify works well for building a prospect list from Google Maps, monitoring competitor prices, or feeding an AI project. Two caveats. The cost of a project is hard to predict before a real test, since each Actor has its own pricing. And the tool does not exempt you from the law: extracting personal data remains subject to GDPR and to the terms of use of the targeted sites. The interface and support are in English.

Frequently asked questions about Apify

How much does Apify cost?▼
The Free plan costs nothing and comes with $5 of credit per month. Starter costs $19 per month, Scale $199, and Business $999, each including a usage credit of the same amount. Annual billing takes off 10%. Beyond the included credit, usage is added to the next invoice.
Is Apify free?▼
Yes, the Free plan is permanent and needs no credit card. It gives you $5 of credit each month to run Actors, which is enough to test an extractor on a few hundred or a few thousand results depending on its pricing. Once the credit is used up, access is suspended until the next month.
Do you need to know how to code to use Apify?▼
Not for common uses. Actors from the Apify Store run from a form and deliver a CSV or Excel file. Code becomes useful for writing a custom extractor, in JavaScript or Python, or for connecting Apify to an application through its API.
Is web scraping with Apify legal?▼
Extracting public data is generally accepted, but responsibility stays with the user. As soon as the data is personal, such as names or profiles, GDPR applies: you need a legal basis, notice to the people concerned, and a retention period. The terms of use of the targeted sites also matter.
Is Apify GDPR compliant?▼
Apify Technologies is a Czech company, SOC 2 Type II certified, which states that it complies with GDPR and offers a data processing agreement. Its services do run on AWS in the United States, which implies a transfer of data outside the European Union.
What are the alternatives to Apify?▼
Browse AI and Octoparse target no-code users with a browser extension. Bright Data and Zyte are aimed at industrial volumes. To chain actions between applications rather than extract data, Make, n8n, or Zapier are better suited, and they can be combined with Apify.
