The standard in agile project management for development teams, very powerful, though its depth demands a real learning curve.

Jira is Atlassian's issue tracking and agile project management tool, which has become the standard for software development teams. It structures work into tickets, sprints, and boards, from backlog to release.
Every task, bug, or feature request becomes a ticket tracked on a Scrum or Kanban board. Teams plan sprints, estimate workload, prioritize the backlog, and track progress with agile reports (burndown, velocity). Jira supports customizable workflows, automations, and a roadmap that connects product vision to daily work. It integrates natively with Confluence and the rest of the Atlassian suite, including Trello, which is lighter.
Compared to Trello, another Atlassian tool built around simple Kanban cards, Jira is far more powerful and technical, built for software development. Compared to ClickUp, an all-in-one generalist tool, it stays focused on software engineering. For a non-technical team, Trello or Asana are a better fit.
Its power comes at a cost: onboarding takes time and the interface can feel heavy for simple needs. Configured well, it excels on technical projects; poorly scoped, it turns into an overcomplicated machine.
