OpenAI Operator was OpenAI's autonomous browser agent, able to click through pages and fill out forms on your behalf. Its status has changed: the standalone product was discontinued on August 31, 2025, and its capabilities were folded into ChatGPT under the name ChatGPT Agent.

What happened to OpenAI Operator?

Launched in early 2025 as a preview, Operator ran on a Computer-Using Agent model that drove a virtual browser. Since July 2025, that capability lives inside ChatGPT Agent, available on the Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans. The standalone site operator.chatgpt.com no longer exists. In 2026, you don't subscribe to Operator anymore, you use ChatGPT's agent.

What is ChatGPT Agent for?

The agent browses the web, fills out forms, compares options, and executes multi-step tasks inside a sandboxed environment. It stays supervised and asks for confirmation before sensitive actions. To automate connections between apps, a tool like Zapier serves a different, more no-code-oriented need.

How much does ChatGPT Agent cost?

There's no longer a standalone Operator price. Access runs through a paid ChatGPT subscription: Plus at $20/month, Pro at $200/month, Team at $25/user/month billed annually, and Enterprise on request. No free plan gives access to the agent.
