The easiest video call for a guest to join: a permanent link, a browser, nothing to install. Whereby works very well for practitioners and consultants who always receive their clients in the same room, and its Norwegian origin reassures those who want a European vendor, with routing to servers in the European Economic Area for users located in Europe. The Pro plan stays affordable. The reservations still weigh: the free plan, limited to 4 people and 30 minutes, is only good for testing, everything is in English, and the vendor has refocused its teams on its Embedded video API since 2023, which leaves some doubt about the pace of development of the Meetings offer.

Whereby is a video conferencing tool born in Norway in 2013, under the name appear.in, from an internship project at the operator Telenor. The tool took its current name in 2019 and has belonged to Videonor since 2017. It targets freelancers, practitioners, and small teams who want video calls without installing anything, as well as software vendors who build video into their product with the Embedded offer.
The principle fits in one sentence: each host has a room with a permanent URL, which they share once and which never changes. The guest clicks, allows their camera, and joins from their browser, with no account and no app. Screen sharing, background blur, noise reduction, a waiting room, and breakout groups are part of the tool. Integrations open Miro, Google Docs, Trello, or YouTube directly in the call. To keep a written record of a call, a note-taking tool such as Granola or Meet by IAxion complements the video call.
The Free plan gives you one room, 4 participants, and 30 minutes per meeting: it is an extended trial more than a working tool. The Pro plan, at $10.99 per month for one host, moves to three rooms, 100 participants, and no time limit, with recording and customization in the brand's colors. Business costs $13.99 per host per month, with a three-host minimum, unlimited rooms, and 200 participants. Prices exclude VAT, and annual billing takes off 17%.
Whereby suits coaches, therapists, and consultants who receive clients in a fixed room, and those who want a European vendor against Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet. For webinars with registration and replay, Livestorm is better suited. Two caveats: the free plan is too limited for regular use, and the interface and support are in English. Recording is done on the user's side and is never sent to Whereby's servers.
Room with a permanent link
Each host keeps the same room URL from one meeting to the next. You put it in your signature or on your booking page, and it never changes.
Access from the browser
Participants join from a recent browser, on computer or mobile, without creating an account or installing an app.
Meeting tools
Screen sharing, background blur and effects, noise reduction, a customizable waiting room, breakout groups, and file sharing.
Integrations in the call
Miro, Google Docs, Trello, and YouTube open inside the meeting so several people can work together without switching tabs.
Whereby Embedded
A usage-billed video API to build video conferencing rooms into an application, used notably in telehealth.
