Capacities

Capacities is a note-taking and knowledge management tool that structures information differently: instead of folders, everything becomes a typed object (a person, a book, an idea, a meeting) linked to the others. Built in Germany, it takes a privacy-conscious stance.

What is Capacities used for?

You create objects based on their nature, link them to each other, and the tool gradually builds a navigable knowledge network. The daily calendar acts as an entry point for on-the-fly capture, smart queries automatically pull together linked objects, and an AI layer helps you write and find things. The result works like a second brain: a personal base where every note finds its place by meaning rather than a rigid folder tree.

Capacities or Notion and Anytype?

Compared to Notion, a Swiss-army-knife tool built around databases and collaboration, Capacities feels more personal and centered on networked thinking. Compared to Anytype, another privacy-focused alternative but local-first and open source, it favors a more guided experience with committed European hosting. For heavy team use, Notion stays more complete.

What are Capacities's limitations?

The object-based logic is disorienting at first and takes time to get used to. The tool is built primarily for individual use: collaboration remains limited compared to team platforms, and advanced AI features require the paid plan.
